Heavy amounts of snow are expected for the first weekend of 2025.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for most of Indiana County along with all of Jefferson and Armstrong and most of Westmoreland Counties that will be in effect until 10:00 tomorrow morning. Between two and five inches of snow is expected to fall during that time, and that could make road conditions rough for the morning and evening commutes today.
However, a winter storm warning is in effect for the southeast ridges of the county for the same period. Heavy snow and patchy blowing snow is expected between now and Saturday, bringing anywhere between five and 12 inches of snow, along with winds gusting as high as 45 miles per hour. This will make travel very difficult, and the wind could bring down tree branches.
PennDOT says avoiding travel during the dangerous conditions is the best way to stay out of trouble, but if you have to go, travel at speeds that are suitable for conditions, turn on headlights, do not drive distracted, keep your car free of snow and ice, and if the conditions turn to a white out, come to a complete stop only when you can safely pull off the roadway.
