The Penguins have a tough stretch of games coming up, starting tomorrow in Sunrise, Florida against the defending champion Florida Panthers, and following up on Sunday at Carolina, where they haven’t won since 2018.
Yesterday at practice, coach Mike Sullivan drilled his defensemen on using their bodies to get into their opponents rather than relying on their sticks. In fact, he had them turn their sticks upside down, resulting in a rough session of teammate-on-teammate hockey. Sullivan says he wants his defensemen to be more physical.
One defenseman who has impressed his coach is P.O. Joseph, who has been a steady presence on the blue line since being re-acquired last month in a trade with St. Louis. Sullivan says Joseph playing the right side is unnatural for him, but he’s up for it and is playing well.
Defenseman Kris Letang is with the team and was back on skates working out before the team practiced yesterday. He’s listed as day-to-day with a lower body injury. Defenseman Nate Clurman was returned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Tomorrow’s game will air on 92.5 FM U92 at 6 o’clock, facing off shortly after 7.
