Tonight, many people will be going out to celebrate the new year, but people need to keep in mind that the police will also be out and they will be looking for people not driving safely.
State police have announced that they will conduct another driving enforcement effort like the ones for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Police will be on the lookout for those driving aggressively and in an intoxicated manner. In the last New Year’s enforcement period, state police said five people were killed in five fatal crashes. One of the fatal crashes was alcohol related. 336 total crashes across the state were investigated last year, and they left 68 people injured. 47 of those 336 crashes were alcohol related.
Drivers are reminded that DUI could result in fines, probation, jail time and license suspension among other punishments in Pennsylvania. And if a DUI crash leads to a death, the penalties will be even more severe.
We here at your Hometown Radio Stations advise you that if you decide to drink tonight, use a designated driver, taxi or ride share service to get home.
