Oneil Cruz’s winter ball season in the Dominican Republic might be coming to an end following a cryptic X post by MLB Insider Mike Rodriguez. Cruz doesn’t appear to be hurt, according to the post, but Rodriguez indicates that it might be attitude related.
Rodriguez opened his post saying that not everyone has the commitment implied by the five letters L-I-C-E-Y, which is short for his team, Tigres del Licey. He adds quote, “if you are not present, there is no place for you. Respect for work must be paramount in the search for success. If you return, you will be welcome; and if not, good luck on your way.”
Cruz was assigned to play Dominican ball earlier this winter as a possible way to prepare him for more games in centerfield in the 2025 regular season, but he missed three straight games in mid-December. The team did not release an update on if Cruz was excused from baseball activities.

Two former Pirates inked contracts with the Washington Nationals. Pitcher Trevor Williams signed a two-year contract worth $14 million yesterday after posting a 2.03 ERA over 13 starts last year. His former teammate, Josh Bell, also signed with the Nats on a one-year, $6 million.
