State police have released the details of their state-wide driving enforcement efforts for the Christmas holiday driving period.
From December 24th to the 26th, state police investigated 496 crashes and 81 people were injured, both of which are increases from 2023. Only one person was killed in one fatal crash this year, a drop from three in each category from last year. That fatal crash happened in Bell Township in Clearfield County. Police also investigated 27 DUI crashes over the Christmas driving period.
In that same time frame, police made 138 DUI arrests, handed out 720 speeding tickets, issued 72 seat belt citations and 19 child seat citations, along with 3,295 other tickets.
In Troop A, which covers portions of Indiana and Westmoreland counties and all of Cambria and Somerset counties, troopers investigated 31 crashes where 9 people were hurt. Three of the accidents were DUI-related. Seven people were arrested for DUI, 39 speeding tickets were issued, and seven self-initiated criminal arrests were reported. Police also issued 17 seatbelt warnings, two seatbelt citations, and 93 other tickets.
These stats cover incidents investigated by state police only. Police also remind drivers that next week, troopers will be out once again for the New Year’s holiday, and ask that if your celebration plans include alcohol, do not drive.
