The Steelers had the chance to rest yesterday after suffering three blowout losses in 10 days against the Eagles, Ravens and Chiefs. Coach Mike Tomlin gave his players the day off to mentally and physically recover from the grueling stretch, but defense will likely be the main focal point when they return to action in a few days.
The defense allowed 90 points during the last three games and recorded zero sacks or turnovers in Wednesday’s loss to Kansas City. Along with that, the secondary has left several opposing receivers open, including the Chiefs’ Travis Kelce and Xavier Worthy just a few days ago.
Linebacker Alex Highsmith said the team needs to take the next few days and “look in the mirror” for answers.
Receiver Calvin Austin III said the team – as a whole – needs to quit giving games to opponents.
Safety Deshon Elliot said the Steelers have had chances to win, but players need to step up.
The Steelers wrap up the regular season 10 days from now when they host Cincinnati at Acrisure Stadium.
Week 17 continued last night with the Seahawks outlasting the Bears for a 6-3 win in Thursday Night Football.
