In a key Heritage Conference East matchup, Portage downed United, 70-65. The Mustangs built an 11-point lead at halftime with a big second quarter, then held off a United rally in the fourth, with the Lions surging to a 24-16 edge. Four Portage players hit double figures, led by Bode Layo’s 20. Trae Kargo had 16, Owen Gouse 12 and Ethan Hodge 11. For United, Carter Payne poured in 24, Dmitri Worthington scored 11 and Ryan Felix 10.
Alex Polenik scored 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as Penns Manor handled River Valley, 71-58. Dylan Kuzemchak scored 15 for the Comets, Vinny Myers 12 and Tyler Cooper 11. River Valley did not provide their numbers.
Marion Center beat Purchase Line 67-40. Noah McCoy scored 20 for the Stingers, Cameron Pack had 15 and Kamden Rozier 13.
Conemaugh Township held onto the top spot in the Heritage East with a 57-46 win over Northern Cambria.
RIFLE
In a tight shooting match, Indiana lost to Waynesburg Central, 796-50x to 778-33x. Top shooter for Indiana was Gavin Dicken with a 99-6x.
ON-AIR
There’s a big Heritage Conference West game tonight on Cat Country, 106.3 FM when the Penns Manor Comets take their 3-0 conference record to River Valley to play the Panthers, who sport a 5-0 conference record. The Comets are 5-1 overall. The Panthers are 7-0.
Marion Center’s girls travel to Purchase Line tonight on 92.5 FM U92. There’s no JV game, so the airtime will be 6:15.
