At his media conference yesterday, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin moved on quickly from Sunday’s disappointing effort in Philadelphia and focused on this Saturday’s game against the Ravens in Baltimore. Still, he knows they can’t expect to win football games when they make the kinds of mistakes they did against the Eagles.
While downplaying the effect of two controversial calls that hurt the Steelers, Tomlin also acknowledged that the officials were probably wrong. Replays showed the officials were wrong in awarding the ball to Philadelphia after a personal foul penalty for a slap to the head of Connor Heyward on a punt in the fourth quarter. It should have been Steelers ball at the Eagles’ 31. And on the scrum at the back of the end zone in which the Steelers were flagged for two personal fouls and the Eagles none, replays showed Eagles players throwing punches. The officials told Tomlin they didn’t see that.
Tomlin says the Steelers need to learn their lessons from Sunday’s loss and apply them against the Ravens.
Tomlin says there’s never uncertainty when it’s the Steelers against the Ravens.
The Steelers have plenty of motivation for Saturday’s game, including the chance to clinch the AFC North title.
Six key Steelers are injured, including All-Pro linebacker TJ Watt, who rolled an ankle on Sunday. He joins defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi, cornerback Donte Jackson, safety DeShon Elliott, wide receiver George Pickens, and backup quarterback Justin Fields. Tomlin says at this point he has not ruled anybody out for playing on Saturday.
