The Penguins skate tonight against the LA Kings at PPG Paints Arena, and they will be without Marcus Pettersson. In fact, they’ll be missing the big defenseman for a while.
Pettersson has an undisclosed injury that will keep him out on a “week to week” basis , according to coach Mike Sullivan. Matt Grzelick was elevated to the second defensive pairing with Erik Karlsson, and Ryan Graves and Ryan Shea made up the third pairing.
Coach Mike Sullivan says replacing Pettersson won’ be easy, but they have the players to do it.
Pettersson was hurt when he was ridden into the boards in Ottawa on Saturday. His steady presence will be missed after he played all 82 games last season.
After a very active early-season schedule has finally eased up, Sullivan has had more actual practice time in recent weeks. He likes the opportunity to work on the team’s game on the ice instead of the video room.
Tonight’s game airs on 92.5 FM U92. We’ll join it in progress after IUP basketball.
