The Colorado Avalanche’s high-powered offense was too much for the Penguins last night as they faced a three-goal deficit early and were eventually blown out, 6-2, at PPG Paints Arena.
Here’s Paul Steigerwald.
Tristan Jarry started in net for the Penguins and stopped 21-of-26 Avalanche shots.
Coach Mike Sullivan said the Penguins simply weren’t ready to play.
Sullivan adds the Penguins were not as aggressive offensively.
Jarry said the Avs’ offense came as advertised.
Sidney Crosby registered another listless performance, registering a minus-1 on the night and extending his goalless streak to seven games. He said he needs to do better in bolstering the Penguins’ offense.
Forward Philip Tomasino returned to the second line after dealing with an upper body injury earlier this week. Goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic was injured despite not seeing a minute on the ice. He took an errant shot to the face while sitting on the bench. He was tended to by the trainer and watched the rest of the game.
The loss bumped Pittsburgh to next-to-last in the Metro Division but the Penguins have a good bounce-back opportunity when they play Montreal, who sits last in the Eastern Conference, tomorrow night.
