The Cobra is going to Cooperstown.
The Classic Baseball Era Committee last night selected former Pirates star Dave Parker for induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame along with slugger Dick Allen. Parker was named on 14 of 16 ballots, at 88 percent far above the needed 75 percent for election into the Hall. “The Cobra” spent the first 11 of his 19 MLB seasons in Pittsburgh, making the All-Star team four times, winning a National League MVP award, All-Star MVP, three Gold Gloves, and two NL batting championships. He was part of the 1979 Pirates World Series champion, too.
In an interview on Indiana In the Morning on WCCS, he said being a baseball star wasn’t his childhood dream. He wanted to be the next Archie Griffin.
Parker also played for the Reds, Brewers, and A’s making three more All-Star teams and winning the World Series with Oakland in 1989.
