BOYS BASKETBALL
United and Penns Manor tipped off their seasons against each other last night and the Lions got hot early and never cooled off in grabbing their first win. Todd Marino has the recap.(78-45 win for United.)
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Indiana’s girls went on the road for an impressive win over Franklin Regional. Jake Slebodnick has the story. (35-26 Indiana win.)
An energetic Michael Franciscus said his team held Franklin Regional in check on the boards.
Marion Center ripped Moshannon Valley, 52-18. Brynnley Haggerty scored 16 points and Alivia Ruddock 10 points for the Stingers.
Penns Manor opened its Heritage Conference slate with a 62-36 win over Cambria Heights. Alyssa Altemus had a big night with 24 points, 10 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists. Allie Mumau scored 15 points and Josslyn Bennet 11. Siena Kirsch had 15 for the Highlanders.
Conemaugh Township edged Homer-Center in a defensive game, 31-23. Becca Marshall led the Wildcats with 8 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
River Valley demolished Conemaugh Valley, 89-26.
We have River Valley girls Junior High scores to pass along. The Panthers beat Conemaugh Valley, 30-28 in the 8th grade game and the Blue Jays won the 7th grade game, 17-13.

River Valley Junior High Girls Basketball 8th grade team defeated Conemaugh Valley in an overtime thriller by a score of 30-28 for the first game of their season. Giada Colinet led the Panthers with 12 points. Myla Gaston chipped in 8 points and Madisyn Dirienzo added 6 points. In the 7th grade game, the Panthers lost 13-17. Emily Kepple led the scoring with 6 points and Delylah Davidson added 4. The Panthers are back in action on Friday at Conemaugh Township.
WRESTLING
Butler spoiled Indiana’s Veterans Night season opener, topping the Indians 46-24. Indiana’s winners were all by fall, with Nico Fanella, Carter Putt, Dom Fanella, Jackson Higgins, Rowan Grantz, Braylon Beatty all taking their matches.
SWIMMING
Homer-Center Swim split a dual meet at Ligonier Valley. The boys won, 84-15 while the girls lost, 101-63. For the Lady Wildcats, the team had five first-place finishes, including two each by Ava King and Morgan Nagy. The relay team of King, Nagy, Alaina Bell, and Vanessa Uher won the 400 Freestyle.
For the boys, Homer-Center had ten wins. Trevor Cameron, Brady Frazer, and Landon Shoup each won two events and Oshen Maratita won one. The relay team of Cameron, Frazer, Shoup, and Dan Jones won both the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. The relay team of Jones, Maratita, Carter Henry, and Isaac Ditter won the 200 freestyle relay.

Homer-Center High School Swim Team at Ligonier Valley High School Press Release Wednesday, December 4, 2024 The Homer-Center Wildcat Swimmers traveled to the Ligonier Valley YMCA for a dual meet with the Rams. The meet was split with the women losing 101 to 63 and the boys winning 84 to 15. For the Lady Wildcats, the team had five first-place finishes. Ava King won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Morgan Nagy won the 200 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke. The relay team of King, Nagy, Alaina Bell, and Vanessa Uher won the 400 Freestyle relay. On the boy’s side, our swimmers combined to win 10 events. Trevor Cameron won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Brady Frazer won the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Landon Shoup won the 200 IM and 500 freestyle. Oshen Maratita won the 50 freestyle. The relay team of Cameron, Frazer, Shoup, and Dan Jones won both the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. The relay team of Jones, Maratita, Carter Henry, and Isaac Ditter won the 200 freestyle relay. As our team grows, we celebrate all of the accomplishments of our swimmers. Alaina Bell completed her first 500 freestyle and Carter Henry finished his first 100 backstroke. Landon Shoup, Isaac Ditter, and Carter Henry all had best times. Isabella Ruffner was our time drop of the meet shaving 17.55 seconds off her 50 freestyle. The Homer-Center Swim Team will host Marion Center this Friday, December 06, 2024, at IUP’s John Pidgeon Natatorium.
