Pitt is 7-1 ahead of tomorrow night’s game against Mississippi State in the SEC/ACC challenge and the Panthers are moving up in the national polls after their 91-90 overtime win at Ohio State last Friday.
Pitt is ranked 18th in the nation in the AP Poll, 19th in the USA Today Coaches Poll, and an astounding fifth in the first NCAA NET rankings of the season. “NET” rankings are the NCAA Evaluation Tool, which replaced the old standard of RPI several years ago to measure a team’s standing in the nation. Its metrics include strength of schedule, and Pitt is 3-1 in games against “Quad One” schools.
Tomorrow night’s opponent, Mississippi State, lost for the first time last Friday, to Butler, and fell out of the Top 25 polls. Kansas is the number one team in the nation in both major polls.
