In early-season basketball action, both of the River Valley teams won and Marion Center took the championship of the Bishop Carroll tournament.
River Valley’s boys evened their record at 1-1 by grinding out a 48-43 win over Highlands. Max Persichetti scored 18 points for the Panthers, who got 14 from Bryson McDowell and 13 from Nick Mortimer.
Ava Persichetti scored 27 points to lead the River Valley girls to a 67-44 win over Richland. The Panthers combined sharp shooting with an aggressive 2-1-2 zone defense, outscoring Richland 21-4 in the third quarter. Kenady Kitner scored 15 points and Morgan Cole 12 for the Panthers.
Marion Center came away with a 43-42 win over Bishop Carroll. No details were provided.
