Members of the River Valley girls golf team received shirts this past week to commemorate their first ever District 6 girls golf championship. The girls finished their historic season with a 13-2 record and defeated six other schools to win the District 6 Girls Championship at Windber Country Club.
Head coach Ethan Grant commented on how great it was to see the girls improve on their game throughout the year, and is excited to see what the future holds for this group, who are all underclassmen. He added, “No one’s good without working on being good.”Volunteer coach Adam Dunlap said, “I would refer to Maren, Madigan, Alessia, Sara, and Ashley as our Fab 5 Juniors since they were part of getting an all girls team started 3 years ago. It’s amazing to see how far they have come. I also see a lot of potential in fellow junior Ashlynn, considering she just started playing the game 2 years ago, as well as our up and coming freshmen, Alex and Nicole. They will be our next batch of superstars as they continue to play the sport.”Credit to Coach Grant, but also to coaches Rebecca Miloser and Doug Smith. They were very instrumental in creating this program three years ago. The three of them create a fun but competitive culture with this group. The girls had a goal of winning districts this year and achieved that. Dunlap says “The girls had a little chip on their shoulder having not been able to continue their quest for states this year due to PIAA rules. We have a motto for next year that’s called ‘Unfinished Business’. I’m hoping they continue that drive in the offseason and summer to work on their game and continue to make history for River Valley girls golf. The future is bright for this group of underclassmen.”
