The Penguins returned to practice yesterday in advance of tomorrow night’s game against the visiting Vancouver Canucks, dragging a three-game losing streak onto the ice with them. They’ve been outscored 13-4 in consecutive losses to Tampa Bay, Winnipeg, and Utah.
Coach Mike Sullivan says the entire team is fighting to break out of the slump.
The coach says the Penguins will keep working, and will approach the game with a positive mindset.
Sullivan says the Pens know that last place in the Metro Division is not where they want to be, and they’re all in on moving up in the standings.
Yesterday, general manager Kyle Dubas traded a 2027 fourth round draft choice to Nashville for forward Philip Thomasino. He was the Predators’ number one draft pick in 2019. He’s played eleven games this season, recording one assist, and has been a healthy scratch for ten games. In 159 games in the NHL, he has 23 goals and 48 assists.
To make room for Thomasino, rookie forward Sam Poulin was reassigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The draft pick the Pens gave up was acquired last year from the New York Rangers in exchange for defenseman Chad Ruhwedel.
After they take on the Canucks tomorrow, the Penguins travel to Boston to play the Bruins, then return home Saturday to welcome the Calgary Flames.
