Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi did not discuss Eli Holstein’s ankle injury yesterday, but he had plenty to say about the manner in which Holstein was injured on Saturday against Louisville. Narduzzi said it was a “hip drop tackle” that is illegal in the NFL and should be outlawed in college football too. The gruesome-looking injury likely ended Holstein’s season. Nate Yarnell will be the probable starter at QB on Saturday against Boston College.
PENN STATE
Saturday’s one-point win over Minnesota was costly for Penn State on both sides of the line of scrimmage. Freshman offensive tackle Anthony Donkoh was lost for the season with a knee injury suffered on the first series. He’s a semifinalist for the NCAA Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award.
Defensive tackle Alonzo Ford Jr. also went down with a significant lower-body injury and isn’t expected to come back. Ford walked off the field after getting hurt on Saturday but coach James Franklin said yesterday that he’s out “long-term”.
