Last week was quite a week for local basketball stars. Three of them earned conference honors.
Mount Aloysius sophomore center Molly Kosmack is the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week after averaging 18 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 3 blocks in the Mounties’ wins over Hood College last Wednesday and Valley Forge on Saturday. She had 20 points and 13 boards against Hood and 16 and 14 against Valley Forge.
A Homer-Center graduate, Kosmack currently leads the conference in points per game (18.5), rebounds per game (12.3), and blocks per game (2.4), and she’s third in field goal percentage (62%). Mount Aloysius is 4-1, their best start in twenty years, heading into tonight’s AMCC conference opener against Penn State Altoona.
Indiana High grad Bella Antonacci is the President’s Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week. The Allegheny College freshman averaged 18 points, 9.5 assists, and 5.5 rebounds in wins over Thiel and Chatham last week. Against Thiel, Antonacci hit five three-pointers and scored 17 of her 24 points in the first half. She finished with six threes, one shy of the school record. She followed that up with her first career double-double, with 12 points and 14 assists against Chatham.
In the first six games of her college career, Antonacci is averaging 10.5 points per game with a team-leading 5.7 assists per game. She is second on the team in rebounds, at 6.8.
IUP’s Nyshae’ Weaver is the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week after wins over Lock Haven and Shippensburg over the weekend.
Weaver had 19 points and pulled down an incredible 20 rebounds with two steals against Lock Haven and scored 11 points with seven rebounds and five steals against Ship. The 20 rebounds and five steals were both personal records for her. She leads the PSAC with an average of 11 rebounds per game.
