Make it five in a row for the IUP women and four in a row for the men after the PSAC opening weekend for the Crimson Hawks’ basketball teams. Jack Benedict has the recap. (The women beat Shippensburg Sunday, 77-41 while the men won, 72-57. Both teams beat Lock Haven on Saturday.)
Women’s coach Craig Carey says his team didn’t play nearly as well as they could have, and he’s going to use their time off to get in some hard work. IUP does not play again until they meet Shepherd at the KCAC on December 6.
Carey says the schedule will also give forward Naomi Zulueta some extra time to heal the bone bruise in her ankle.
Men’s coach Joe Lombardi says his youthful team stepped it up in the second half, on the glass and beyond the arc.
Wednesday’s men’s opponent, Lincoln, has started the season 2-3, with three of their games against PSAC teams. They beat Kutztown by 9, lost to East Stroudsburg by 20, and lost to Cal by 32. On Saturday, they beat Molloy University, 100-78.
