The District 6 football championships continue this weekend at Mansion Park Stadium in Altoona, and two Heritage Conference teams look to capture the single-A and double-A titles.
Heritage Conference champion and top seed in the Double-A bracket Cambria Heights looks to remain unbeaten and win their second consecutive District 6 championship against second-seed Richland, who is 10-2. The Highlanders knocked off Purchase Line last season to win the Single-A championship. Richland looks for retribution after they lost to Bald Eagle in the 2A championship last year.
Highlanders coach Jarrod Lewis said his team worked hard to get another shot at a District title.
Lewis has the keys to victory against Richland.
Rams coach Brandon Bailey said his defense must overcome a versatile Highlanders offense.
Tomorrow night is the Single-A championship game featuring top seed Bishop Guilfoyle and second-seed Northern Cambria. The Marauders breezed by Juniata Valley and Claysburg-Kimmel in the first two rounds, scoring 49 points in each game, while the Colts knocked off two Heritage Conference teams in Portage and Penns Manor.
Northern Cambria last appeared in the championship game two years ago when they beat Penns Manor, 12-6. Bishop Guilfoyle was in Double-A last season and dropped their opening round game to Bald Eagle.
Colts coach Sam Shutty said his defense needs to contain Marauders’ quarterback Chase Kissell, who has thrown 33 touchdowns and just five interceptions this season.
Marauders coach Justin Wheeler praised Colts’ quarterback Ty Dumm, saying he is a true playmaker.
