Despite a cleaner performance in their final game of the homestand, the Penguins weren’t able to take advantage of scoring opportunities and they lost to the Detroit Red Wings in overtime.

Alex Nedeljkovic had a better night in net after subbing for Joel Blomqvist on Monday, stopping 28-of-31 shots and shutting out the Red Wings in the first and third periods.
Coach Mike Sullivan said the Penguins fought hard despite the slow start.
Sullivan said the Penguins approached the Red Wings with more caution.
Sullivan commended his team for fighting hard in the third period and forcing overtime.
Nedeljkovic said this game was easier to learn from than Monday night.
Bryan Rust scored one goal for the Penguins. He said the team is still confident despite the cold streak.
Forward Blake Lizotte left the game in the first period after catching a high shot from Drew O’Conner. Sullivan said Lizotte is being evaluated and is day-to-day.
During the game, the Penguins honored Evgeni Malkin for becoming the second Russian-born player to score 500 goals. He achieved that feat in an overtime win against Buffalo on October 16th. The tribute included video messages from several hockey stars, including Geno’s longtime teammates Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang, Marc-Andre Fleury, Mark Recchi, and Capitals’ great Alex Ovechkin.
The Penguins look to snap their two-game losing streak this weekend when they play back-to-back Friday and Saturday. Friday’s game will be on the road against Columbus, followed by a home game against San Jose on Saturday.
