The IUP men’s basketball team lost its second straight game to start the season when a furious rally fell short at Charleston. The women opened their season with a victory at the KCAC.

Coach Craig Carey’s women’s team debuted with a 72-55 win over Salem on Saturday afternoon at the KCAC.
IUP led 18-8 after one quarter and took an 11-point lead into the half, at 40-39. They slowly extended the lead, with a 4-point margin in the third quarter and a two-point advantage in the fourth.
Nyshae’ Weaver recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. She also had two assists. Shamia Strayhorn began her IUP career with a 17-point effort, with five rebounds, four assists, a block and a steal. Ellie Wilkerson scored 12 points with nine rebounds, an assist, and two steals.
IUP hosts Virginia State this afternoon at 2:00 at the KCAC.
