The Penguins return to practice at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex today after Saturday’s win over Montreal. Since their return from an 0-4 western Canada road trip, the Pens have won two games in a row and have given up only a goal in each of those games, while Sidney Crosby has scored two goals in both.
The Pens will visit the New York Islanders for a Metro Division game tomorrow night.
Coach Mike Sullivan says it’s no mystery why the Penguins have won two straight games…they’re playing better defense.
Sullivan says goaltender Alex Ndeljkovic’s ability to move the puck out of the defensive zone has been a big factor in the Pens’ improvement.
Crosby had one goal through the Penguins’ first eleven games but he’s scored four goals in their last two. He says the new top line grouping with Evgeni Malkin and Rickard Rakell is working well. Despite being longtime teammates, he and Malkin have never been regular linemates.
The Pens will play three road games this week and all three are Metro Division games: at the Islanders tomorrow, at Carolina on Thursday, and at first place Washington on Friday.
