The Steelers are enjoying the week off from play thanks to the Bye week, but the team did announce they have nominated Rocky Bleier for the NFL’s Salute to Service award.
After his rookie season, Bleier served in the Army in Vietnam and was wounded in the leg. After his return to the states and to civilian life, Bleier continued to rehab after being told many times he would not be able to play football again. He was a part of the Steelers 70’s dynasty that won four super bowls.
The NFL’s Salute to Service Award recognizes NFL players, coaches, personnel and legends who make a commitment to supporting the military community. Fans can vote at nfl.com to name the three finalists. The winner will be announced in January as part of the runup to the Super Bowl.
