The top eight teams is Class A and Class AA make the District 6 football playoffs and those spots were finalized Friday night with Week 10 results in the Heritage Conference and elsewhere.
To no one’s surprise, Cambria Heights finished the regular season at 10-0 in the Heritage with a 38-6 victory at Penns Manor and the Highlanders cemented their No. 1 district ranking in Class AA, while Penns Manor finished with a four-game skid, but still ranked sixth in Class A. Northern Cambria had trouble with Portage, as the teams were tied 6-6 at halftime, but the Colts took control in the second half and came away with a 28-14 win. Northern Cambria finished the regular season at 9-1 and second in the district Class A rankings.
River Valley rebounded from a loss to Northern Cambria last week to dominate winless West Shamokin, 49-21. The Panthers finished 8-2 and secured home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs with the No. 4 slot in Class AA. Here’s Jake Slebodnick with more from Cat Country 106.3 FM.
At Conemaugh Township, the Homer-Center Wildcats had a rough first half and lost to the Indians, 27-7. The Wildcats finished 2-8. Here’s Mark Bertig’s recap on WCCS and Renda Digital TV.
Marion Center finished strong with a 34-0 blanking of United Valley. It was the only contest of the night between two Indiana County teams that will move on to the District 6 playoffs next week. Marion Center finished sixth in Class AA, with United Valley right behind the Stingers at No. 7.
Purchase Line ended a trying season with a 37-16 victory over Conemaugh Valley. The Red Dragons finished 2-8 and one spot outside the top eight in Class A.
