It would be hard to find anyone who would say Pitt would pick off Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord five times and return three of them for touchdowns, but that’s exactly what happened at Acrisure Stadium last night. The Panthers throttled the Orange, 41-13, with three linebackers getting pick-sixes.
Rasheem Biles returned an interception 35 yards, Kyle Louis went 59 yards, and Braylan Lovelace took his interception back 33 yards. Safety P.J. O’Brien had an interception and another linebacker, Brandon George, picked off a pass as well. Pitt’s pass rush picked up four sacks and the Panthers allowed only six yards rushing, forcing McCord to the air.
McCord completed 35 of 64 passes for 321 yards while Pitt’s Eli Holstein was 11-for-15 for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
Coach Pat Narduzzi says Pitt showed the nation that it can play.
Pitt ran only 44 plays in the game while the Orange ran 93. Narduzzi says his defense never gave his offense a chance to settle in.
19th-ranked Pitt is 7-0 and will travel to play number 22 SMU, which is 6-1, next Saturday.
