The Steelers opened practice yesterday for the game Monday night against the New York Giants.
Before the workout, the team signed cornerback C.J. Henderson to the active roster from the practice squad, put defensive tackle Montravius Adams on injured reserve, and re-signed defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko to the practice squad. He’s been with the Steelers on and off since signing with them prior to last season.
After practice, players were commenting on the re-energized offense.
Tight end Pat Freiermuth says they finally came alive against the Jets on Sunday after starting slowly once again. He says they have the weapons to be a big-play offense.
Linebacker Alex Highsmith said he was sore after he returned to action on Sunday, but he’s “really, really close to 100 percent” now.
The banged-up Steelers defense will get a boost after next week’s bye when cornerback Cam Sutton returns from his eight-game NFL suspension.
Rookie nickel corner Beanie Bishop had two interceptions against Aaron Rodgers of the Jets on Sunday. He says Sutton has been helping him learn the NFL game.
Former Steelers Hines Ward, James Harrison, and Gary Anderson have made the list of the final 50 candidates for this year’s NFL Hall of Fame class, along with former Pitt guard Ruben Brown and former Penn State guard Steve Wisniewski. The screening committee submitted the names to the full Hall of Fame voting committee yesterday. Twenty-five semifinalists will be announced next month, then 15 finalists will be chosen prior to the Super Bowl.
