VOLLEYBALL
Indiana swept Montour in three close sets in the first round of the WPIAL 3A playoffs. The scores were 27-25, 25-22, and 30-28. Stella Stossel had 19 kills and Paige Fisanich had 16 kills and 11 digs. Allison Lichtenfels had 6 kills and 5 blocks. Hannah Cowburn had 44 assists. Rebecca Roccetti had 13 digs. Indiana will play Mars on Saturday after the Planets swept Albert Gallatin last night.
In the District 6 Class A playoffs, Glendale and Purchase Line split the first two sets before the Vikings took the final two to win their first round match, 25-16, 19-25, 25-23 and 25-20.
In AA, number 8 Marion Center will host number 9 Penn Cambria tonight, with the winner to play top seed Richland next Tuesday.
GOLF
At the State Team AA championship. West Shamokin finished in a fifth place tie with North Catholic, twenty strokes off the pace set by the champion, Scranton Prep. Playing on the Penn State Blue Course, West Shamokin was led by Alex Talmadge’s two under par 70, which included five birdies and three bogeys. The Wolves’ three other scorers. Travis Johns, Logan Geist, and Gunnar Shoop, all shot 82.
Private schools (Scranton Prep, Cathedral Prep, and Greensburg Central Catholic) finished in the top three spots ahead of West Shamokin and North Catholic.
