The Penguins face off with the Winnipeg Jets this afternoon and the Steelers host the New York Jets tonight, with some uncertainty for both teams about their lineups.
The Penguins took all three goaltenders with them to Winnipeg. Rookie Joel Blomqvist has relegated starter Tristan Jarry to the bench but Alex Ndeljkovic is ready to return to the lineup after starting the season on injured reserve.
Coach Mike Sullivan has also shuffled his lines again. Michael Bunting appeared to be the odd man out during Saturday’s practice. Drew O’Connor was elevated to Evgeni Malkin’s wing on the second line. Forward Valtteri Puustinen skated on lars Eller’s third line and seems likely to make his first start of the season after being a healthy scratch for every game so far. Ryan Shea joined Ryan Graves on the third defensive pairing, relegating Jack St. Ivany to an apparent healthy scratch for today.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin still is refusing to say that Russell Wilson is his quarterback the Sunday Night Football. Wilson has not played yet this season while he recovers from a calf injury but he’s gotten the bulk of the work with the first team this week, replacing Justin Fields.
Alex Highsmith remains on track to return to the lineup after missing three games with a groin injury. Safety Damontae Kazee is medically cleared to return after missing the last two games with an ankle injury.
