Students will be back in class at the Purchase Line Elementary School today after the school was evacuated yesterday due to a bomb threat.
In a letter sent to district parents from Superintendent Patricia Berezansky, the handwritten threat found in a girl’s restroom was reported to district personnel at 2:05 PM. Out of an abundance of caution, students and staff were evacuated following district procedures and escorted to the Junior/Senior High School building. State police were notified, and a sweep of the building performed by the state police bomb k-9 unit found no explosive devices in the building. The building was cleared at 4:35 PM and deemed safe to occupy.
The district thanked the students and staff for their cooperation, and classes are set to resume today as scheduled. There may be an increased police presence at the schools over the next few days as a precaution. The district is advising students who need help in dealing with the incident to visit the school counselor.
State police say the investigation is continuing and anyone with information should call them at 724-357-1960 or call the school at 724-254-4312.
