The Penguins will play in Columbus tonight in anther preseason game. The lineup will not include some of the bigger names, as Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust, Kris Letang, and Marcus Pettersson will have the night off. Tristan Jarry will be in net. Other veterans scheduled to skate tonight are Ryan Shea, John Ludvig, Kevin Hayes, Jesse Puljujarvi, Emil Bemstrom, and Valtteri Puustinen.
Young prospects Rutger McGroarty and Harrison Brunicke are in the lineup tonight. Coach Mike Sullivan says they are among a group of players who “absolutely” have a chance to make the team for the opener next Wednesday.
Sullivan likes how Tristan Jarry looks in training camp. He says he’s fitter than ever and is showing great leadership.
Goaltender Alex Ndeljkovic is termed “week-to-week” with an unspecified injury suffered in Monday’s game in Detroit.
Forward Blake Lizotte is out indefinitely with a concussion.
Young prospect Vasily Ponomarev is “day-to-day” with a suspected shoulder injury.
Defenseman Erik Karlsson skated before practice again yesterday, along with forward Matt Nieto, who is returning from off-season knee surgery.
Forwards Jimmy Huntington, Marc Johnstone and Mac Hollowell were placed on waivers. If they clear waivers by 2 PM today, they will be assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Already signed to AHL contracts, forwards Avery Hayes and Dan Renouf were sent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
