Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has a bunch of injuries to contend with on offense and defense, and he is facing a Dallas Cowboys team that is 2-2 and plagued by inconsistent play. One thing the coach knows…the Cowboys have the talent to bust out at any minute.
The coach is eager to get the team to work today for the first practice of the week.
Tomlin says the Steelers were their own worst enemies in Sunday’s loss to the Colts, particularly falling short in controllable factors. He cited two fumbles by Justin Fields, one by George Pickens inside the Colts’ 10-yard-line, a spate of penalties that continue to plague the Steelers, and a dropped interception in the end zone by Joey Porter.
The Steelers will have to overcome a lot of injuries to key players, but may be getting healthy at quarterback, where Russell Wilson is going to increase his workload and may soon be ready for game action.
Tomlin is being patient with the veteran QB, who has yet to take a snap in a regular season game.
The Steelers will have to come up with a plan to stop the multi-talented Cowboys star quarterback, Dak Prescott.
Tomlin says guard Isaac Seumalo has “a real shot” to finally return from his pec injury and play Sunday for the first time this season.
Guard James Daniels was placed on injured reserve yesterday. Linebacker Alex Highsmith is out for this Sunday with a groin injury. Other injured Steelers with a chance to play this week include Keeanu Benton, Jaylen Warren, Cordarelle Patterson, and MyCole Pruitt.
Former Texans, Bengals, and Commanders guard Max Scharping has been signed to the 53-man roster. Defensive backs Jalen Elliott and Darius Rush have been released.
Tomlin also said yesterday that the NFL admitted that the key unnecessary roughness penalty against Minkah Fitzpatrick on Sunday was the wrong call. The coach said officials are not perfect and no one else is either, so they have to overcome mistaken calls.
