Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi has a rested football team after a week off. The Panthers travel to Chapel Hill to play North Carolina in their ACC opener Saturday. The 4-0 Panthers will play their entire eight-game ACC slate consecutively, starting with the Tar Heels, who are reeling after being beaten 70-50 by James Madison two weeks ago and blowing a 20-0 lead and losing to Duke, 21-20 last week.
Narduzzi says the Panthers are not paying any attention to the fact that the game is in Chapel Hill, where Pitt is 0-and-7 all-time.
The coach says Pitt hasn’t really emphasized that this is the conference opener.
Pitt’s injury situation is improving. Narduzzi reported that running back Desmond Reid is 100 percent after the week’s rest. Defensive tackle Sean FitzSimmons may be able to play for the first time this season.
Safety P.J. O’Brien will miss the game serving a mandatory one-game suspension after being flagged for targeting against Youngstown State.
