Indiana County’s Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate jumped eight-tenths of a percentage point over the month of August.
The county rate stands at 4.4%. The statewide unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.4% and the national rate dropped a tenth of a percentage point to 4.2%. Over the last year, the county’s rate remained unchanged while the statewide rate went up a tenth of a point and the national rate increased four-tenths of a point.
Comparing Indiana County to surrounding counties, Indiana’s is the highest. Westmoreland County is the lowest in the region at 3.7%. After that is Clearfield is at 3.9%, Cambria checked in at 4.0%, Armstrong County is at 4.1%, and Jefferson County is at 4.2%.
The highest unemployment rate in the state is Cameron County at 5.5%, while the lowest is 2.6% in both Adams and Centre Counties.
Total nonfarm jobs in the county were essentially unchanged at 28,400 in August. The nine industry supersectors remained virtually unchanged.
