A sentencing hearing is scheduled today for a man charged with rear-ending a state police cruiser and becoming aggressive with troopers.
41-year-old David Paul Dilts, Jr. of Penn Run pleaded guilty to DUI-Controlled Substance, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest on August 19th in Indiana County Court. The charges were filed in connection with an incident on Airport Road near Spearman Road in Cherryhill Township on February 24th. Police say he was driving a Ford F-150 east on Airport Road and rear-ended the state police cruiser resulting in moderate damage to the car and disabling damage to the truck.
After the collision, Dilts got out of the truck and shouted at the trooper. He refused to comply with police as they tried to give him a field sobriety test and while he was handcuffed, he spat a wad of chewing tobacco in a trooper’s face.
Charges of assaulting an officer, harassment, and five summary driving offenses were not prosecuted as part of the plea deal.
