The West Shamokin golf team shattered the District 6 Double-A record yesterday, taking the Section title and advancing to the D6 Championship next week at Scotch Valley in Hollidaysburg.
West Shamokin shot a district record 298 at the Ebensburg Country Club, beating second place River Valley by 35 strokes, and all six Wolves golfers qualified for the individual championship, led by record-breaking medalist Alex Talmadge. He shot a five under par 66, which is another District 6 record, and qualified for the individual tournament for the third time. Braden Talmadge shot 76, Gunnar Shoop a 77 (also the third time he has qualified), Logan Geist a 79, and Travis Johns and Kash Julius both shot 85.
River Valley also had a great day, finishing second overall and placing three golfers in the individual tourney. Jake Pynos finished tied for second with a 74, Jeremy Reed shot 76, and Brady Doak shot 86, right on the cut line. Chase Stuchal and Bryson McDowell round out the team that will advance to Scotch Valley next week.
The other teams making it to the championship tournament next week are Westmont Hilltop and Central Cambria. Other Heritage Conference golfers making it into the individual field are Jonah Irvin and Trae Kargo of Portage, who both shot 82, Brayden Rado of Homer-Center, with an 84, and Conemaugh Valley’s Jeremy Dietz and Portage’s Kaiden Zock, both at the cut line with matching 87s. Homer-Center’s Marcus Coy just missed the cut by one stroke.
