Mitch Keller has not had a good second half of the season. He gets the start this afternoon in the Pirates’ final home game of the season. Keller is 11-11 and his ERA has risen to 4.21. He will face the Brewers’ Aaron Civale, who is 7-9 with a 4.53 ERA. It’s a 12:10 airtime, 12:35 first pitch on WCCS.
The Pirates have selected standout minor league players for the Arizona Fall League, including former top draft choice Termarr Johnson. Also on the list is pitcher Mike Burrows, who is a little old for the AFL, but is coming back from Tommy John surgery and only got 46-and-a-third innings this year at Indianapolis. Other Pirates prospects headed west are pitchers Khristian Curtis, Derek Diamond, and Eddy Yean, catcher Geovanny Planchart, infielder Kervin Pichardo, and outfielder Sammy Siani.
This year, the Bucs’ prospects will play for the Scottsdale Scorpions, along with players from the Blue Jays, Giants, Mets, and Tigers organizations. The AFL season begins October 7th, with the championship game on November 16th.
