At their recent meeting in Harrisburg, officials with the Pennsylvania Game Commission announced the purchase of coal rights to some land in Indiana County. Roughly 164 acres of State Game Lands 79 in Buffington Township was acquired at a recent auction. No price was disclosed but the transaction reportedly occurred on August 28.
Purchasing coal rights to land allows the Game Commission to continue securing mineral rights across the state which will help protect wildlife and hunting opportunities, such as hunting and trapping. Game Commission officials have worked with several companies for gas and oil production, including Chesapeake Energy, Chief Oil & Gas, and Pennsylvania General Energy, to name a few.
The Game Commission also decreased the minimum age of falconers to 16 years old, which was established by federal regulations. And they were briefed on provisions and accompanying programs aiding farmers with deer-damage issues.
