The Pirates lost 8-3 to the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.
Mitch Kellar took the loss for the Pirates, lasting only 3 and a thirds innings and giving up eight runs on seven hits, including two home runs, walking five and striking out only one batter. Oneil Cruz did hit a home run in the 7th inning, giving him 20 homers on the year, and making him the third Pirate in franchise history to have 20 homers and 20 stolen bases in a year. The other two are Barry Bonds and Andrew McCutchen. Joey Bart and Rowdy Tellez each had an RBI in the game as well. However, the loss not only continues the team’s late season struggles, it also cements a sixth straight losing season for the Pirates and their 28th losing season in 34 years.
The two teams play again today at 1:10 PM. Due to our commitment to Pitt Football, we will not air the Pirates game today.
