UPDATE: The district has also announced that Monday’s School Board and Audit and Finance Committee meetings are cancelled. The next school board meeting will be October 14th and the Audit and Finance Committee meeting will be combined with the Buildings/Grounds and Transportation meeting on September 30th.
WHAT WE FIRST REPORTED
The Indiana Area School District has announced they will dismiss classes early on Monday due to the rally for former President Donald Trump.
In a letter sent to parents, Superintendent Rob Heinrich said that the district was advised by authorities that there may be some gridlock traffic in certain areas of White Township and Indiana Borough and recommend that all bus runs be completed by 2:00 PM. Police in Indiana Borough feel confident that they can help get the buses through the area before then but have concerns about buses getting stuck if they would dismiss classes at normal times, and have students on the bus on an extended period of time.
To that end, the district will have a three-hour early dismissal on Monday and Evergreen After School Club activities will be cancelled. Other after-school activities like practices and games have not been cancelled and coaches have the ability to cancel or adjust practice times on a case-by-case basis. A soccer game scheduled for the senior high school will go on as planned, but people are advised to avoid Wayne Avenue in Indiana Borough south of Philadelphia Street.
