An Indiana County group geared toward community change received a $250,000 grant from the Coal Communities Get Ready! Challenge.
The challenge comes from the Just Transition Fund, a philanthropic initiative that is focused on coal community economic transition. It is meant to help organizations develop ideas to help local economies and prepare and apply for and manage federal investment within a year.
The Indiana County Center for Community Growth was one of twelve groups across the nation to receive an equal share of $3 million. The money will be used to help launch a program called “Indiana County Thrives”, a community driven initiative to identify and develop economic and workforce opportunities following the closure of the Homer City Generating Station.
