Another suspect has entered a guilty plea in federal court related to a drug ring that was broken up in 2021.
U.S. Attorney Eric Olshan announced that 46-year-old Paul Smith of Middletown, Delaware pleaded guilty to a charge of violating federal narcotics laws. He was one of 31 people arrested and charged with conspiring to distribute 100 grams or more of a mixture that contained heroin. He was intercepted on a federal wiretap obtaining quantities of drugs that he would later distribute to others. His sentencing is scheduled for January 21st of next year, and he faces between five and 40 years in prison, a fine of up to $5 million, or both.
This was part of a drug ring that spread heroin, meth, fentanyl, crack and cocaine throughout western Pennsylvania. That investigation resulted in the arrest of 31 people, including Ruby Gil of Indiana. She was sentenced to nine years in prison and four years of supervised release in November of 2022.
