The Pitt Panthers are getting set for their biggest football game of the season, and it’s not even an ACC game. Pitt plays West Virginia at Acrisure Stadium, kicking off at 3:30.
Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi moved his practices indoors this week to keep prying eyes from watching. Pitt threw three interceptions last year in a 17-6 loss to the Mountaineers. The Panthers have lost four of the last five Backyard Brawls against WVU.
Airtime tomorrow is at 1:30 on WCCS.
Pitt legend Joe Schmidt has passed away at the age of 92. He was a member of both the college and pro football halls of fame and was Pitt’s first-ever player inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. The fearsome middle linebacker was a Pitt All-American in 1952 and went on to win two NFL championships in the pre-Super Bowl era, in 1953 and 1957.
Pitt has named a seven-member advisory committee to help in its search for a new athletic director to replace Heather Lyke, who was fired this week. Current basketball coach Jeff Capel and former All-American defensive lineman Aaron Donald will join former Panthers quarterback Pat Bostick, who is a senior associate athletic director, along with other athletics, faculty, and alumni representatives on the committee.
A sports executive search company, TurnkeyZRG, will lead the hunt for a new AD.
