At the season-opening UC Invitational at the University of Charleston in West Virginia yesterday, IUP’s golf team finished second overall in a 17-team field. Charleston shot a combined three under par to win, with IUP at six over, finishing ahead of Gannon by 1 stroke. Alex Swinnerton was IUP’s top golfer with a six under 207 for the three-round event, just one stroke behind the medalist, Charleston’s Erik Ulvang.
IUP beat West Liberty in women’s volleyball, 3-0 last night and lost to Millersville, 2-1 in field hockey.
IUP’s Dan Gibney has been named PSAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his win at the season-opening West Liberty Invitational 6K. He ran the race in 18:45.2 as IUP finished third overall behind West Virginia Wesleyan and West Liberty.
