Music and activities will fill Downtown Indiana over the next two days with the 2024 edition of the Northern Appalachian Folk Festival.
Activity will kick off today around 4:00 as the first concerts get underway at the two stages for the festival. Musicians today include The Harmony Guild, Kiara Smith Band, Bindley Hardware Company, Miss Freddye’s Blues Band, Rivers, Black Ridge and HABITAT. Eighteen other music acts are scheduled for the stages on 7th Street and near the American Legion on Saturday.
One of the events tomorrow will be the Walk of Fame induction ceremonies as bricks commemorating accomplishments from people and entities in the Northern Appalachian region. This year’s honorees include:
- Former IUP football coach Chuck Klausing for Sports
- Sculptor Thaddeus Mosley for the Arts
- Retired Harvard University Sociology professor Dr. William Wilson, a graduate from Blairsville High School in 1953
- United Mine Workers of America Organizer Fanny Sellins for human rights
- “Martha” the last passenger pigeon in America for the environment
- Local singer Patti Holmes for Music.
The Walk of Fame Ceremony will be tomorrow at 10 AM.
Along with the vendors and activities along Philadelphia Street there will also be activities at the Indiana Theater, the Historical and Genealogical Society of Indiana County, Paper Garden Company and the Hoodlebug Trail itself.
