Steelers’ coach Mike Tomlin will hold his first in-season news conference today ahead of Sunday’s opener at Atlanta.
Second-year lineman Spencer Anderson is the apparent starter at right guard this Sunday after Isaac Seumalo suffered a pectoral muscle injury in practice last week. Anderson will start alongside rookie center Zach Frazier. The Steelers still have not clarified whether it will be last year’s number one draft choice, Broderick Jones, or this year’s top pick, Troy Fautanu, at right tackle.
Running back Jaylen Warren says he will be ready to suit up as he recovers from his tight hamstring.
The Steelers have named Cam Heyward, TJ Watt, Miles Killebrew, and Russell Wilson their team captains for this season. For Heyward, it’s his tenth time as captain. Watt is a captain for a fourth time, Killebrew for his third time. Wilson is a captain in his first season in Pittsburgh. He was a previous captain for the Seahawks and the Broncos.
The Steelers have signed defensive back Ayo Oyelola to their practice squad. He is their International Player Pathway Program player. The rules governing the program allow for adding a 17th player to the practice squad if he is from a foreign country. Oyelola is a former soccer player and law school graduate from England. He’s previously been with Jacksonville as a practice squad player.
The Steelers also yesterday reportedly worked out wide receiver and former All-Pro kick returner Jamal Agnew, who has played for Detroit and Jacksonville.
