The pitching was superb for both the Pirates and their AA affiliate, the Altoona Curve on Saturday. Both got shutout wins.
Joe Block has the story of the Pirates’ win in Cleveland.
At Altoona, Anthony Solometo and Jaden Woods led the Curve to a fifth straight win over New Hampshire and a chance for their first series sweep of the season. Solometo threw six innings and struck out six, and Woods followed with three more scoreless innings as the Curve won, 1-0. Altoona scored the game’s only run in the third inning when Eli Wilson stole second, drawing a throw from catcher Robert Brooks as Jase Bowen broke from third base and beat the relay home.
Nick Dombkowski pitches for the Curve today as the try for the sweep (1:00 PM).
