The state insurance department is calling on insurance companies to offer some flexibility for those affected by the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby.
Indiana and 27 other counties are a part of a disaster declaration issued by Governor Shapiro. People not only lost home and property, but medicine, vehicles and other items. Cleanup efforts are continuing.
Companies are being asked to relax due dates for premium payments, extending grace periods, waiving late fees and penalties, and allow payment plans for premium payments to avoid a lapse of coverage. Insurers are also asked to only consider cancelling or not renewing polices after all other methods have been exhausted.
Health insurers are also being asked to allow patients to fill prescriptions early, and at no cost when possible, for medicine lost or destroyed during the flood.
