On Tuesday, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expanded his emergency status order connected with the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby to include Indiana County.
Indiana was one of seven counties added to the disaster declaration, bringing the number of counties under that declaration to 28. One of the hardest hit areas of Indiana County was Clymer, where many were displaced due to the flooding of Two Lick Creek, with Sherman Street and a portion of Juniper Avenue taking the most damage. Clean-up efforts have been underway since the water levels returned to normal. This marked the second time this year that the community was affected by the flood.
The proclamation makes $5 million of state funds immediately available to assist with immediate response and recovery. It also authorizes state agencies to use all available resources and personnel to help, and also waives bidding and contracting procedures and other formalities that would normally be required by law.
In a statement, Governor Shapiro said that his administration is in contact with federal and local leaders and is working with emergency management partners to deliver aid where it’s needed. People who need assistance are encouraged to contact municipal or county EMA officials as soon as possible.
