Blairsville Borough will soon be able to upgrade several policies after receiving state grant money earlier this month.
During her report at Tuesday’s borough council meeting, borough manager Jody Poorbaugh said Blairsville received $50,000 in non-matching grant funds from the Appalachian Regional Commission after attending and completing requirements from a nine-week seminar hosted by the Commission. She detailed what those funds will be put towards.
Police Chief Lou Sacco said the police department will also receive a portion of those funds for software upgrades.
In other business, council approved removing seven Bradford pear trees and one dead maple tree along North and South Walnut Streets, as well as trimming several other trees. Jarvie Tree Service will complete the work after they submitted the lowest bid of $10,500. Once the eight trees are removed, the borough will look at replacing them in those areas.
